Step 1
Use twine or crepe paper to measure from the top of the mug handle to the center of the mug bottom.
Step 2
Cut 2” wide strips of crepe paper, matching the length you measured with the twine or paper.
Step 3
Keep cutting strips until you have enough to cover the entire mug.
Step 4
Use double-sided tape to secure the cut crepe paper from the top of the mug handle to the inside center, gently pulling it taut.
Step 5
Trim two strips for the handle, each 1” wide and approximately 2” in length.
Step 6
Cut a longer strip, 1” wide and about 7” long, for the handle
Step 7
Use one of the small pieces of crepe paper to cover the area between the handles, adjusting the size if needed. Use double-sided tape between the mug and the paper to secure.
Step 8
Flip the mug over and attach small pieces of double-sided tape under the handle and on the bottom of the mug. Attach one of the small pieces of crepe paper, as you did in step 7.
Step 9
Wrap the longer strip of paper around the handle until it's fully covered.
Step 10
Use a small piece of crepe paper to cover the mug between the top and bottom of the handle, cutting it to size if it doesn’t fit smoothly.
Step 11
Tape a strip at the middle of the base, angled close to the right side of the handle.
Step 12
Gently pull the strip up over the mug to cover it. Tuck it inside the mug and secure it smoothly with a piece of double-sided tape between the paper and the mug..
Step 13
Place the next strip to the right side of the last, overlapping by about 1/4”.
Step 14
Repeat with each strip until the entire mug is covered.
Step 15
Tie a skinny ribbon around the top of the handle to create a bow.
Step 16
Cut a 1” x 1” square from construction paper for a gift tag. Write on it and tie it to a piece of twine. Tape the twine inside the mug so that the tag hangs over the edge like a tea bag. Alternatively, use a ready-made gift tag.
