Age-Appropriate Easter Activities for Kids of Different Ages

Easter is just around the corner, and one of the most exciting activities for kids during this season is the traditional Easter egg hunt. It's a fun and engaging way for the whole family to celebrate the holiday, but it can be a bit challenging to organize. That's why we've put together this Easter Egg Hunt Planning Guide with helpful tips and ideas to ensure a safe and enjoyable event for children of all ages.

TL;DR

  1. Choose a safe location

  2. Plan carefully

  3. Hide the eggs

  4. Plan different activities for different age groups

  5. Don’t forget the prizes!

1. Choose a Safe Location

The first thing to consider when planning an Easter egg hunt is the location. You want to choose a safe area that is free from potential hazards such as rough terrain, water sources, or sharp objects. Ideally, it should be an open space with plenty of room for kids to run around and explore.

2. Plan the Easter Egg Hunt

Next, decide on the details of the Easter egg hunt itself. Will it be an individual or team event? How many eggs will each child be allowed to collect? What types of eggs will you use? Plastic eggs with candy or small toys inside are a popular choice, but you can also use hard-boiled eggs that are decorated or painted.

One tip for making sure no child can find all the eggs is to label the eggs with each child’s name, or assign each child a color to collect. No more sibling rivalry to ruin the day!

3. Hide the Eggs

The key to a successful Easter egg hunt is finding creative hiding spots that will challenge and engage the children. Some great ideas include hiding eggs in trees, under bushes, inside hose pipes, and behind objects.

If your children are older, consider doing an Easter egg scavenger hunt, with eggs hidden more carefully and with fun clues to direct children to each egg. You’ll need to allow time to write clues for each child, but it’s a great way to keep older children in the holiday spirit.

Don’t forget to record where you hide the Easter eggs! Nothing ruins the magic of the holiday like stepping in a melted egg blob weeks later.

4. Consider Age-Appropriate Activities

If you have children of different ages participating in the egg hunt, it's essential to plan age-appropriate activities that will keep everyone engaged. For younger children, you can create a designated area with a smaller number of eggs hidden in plain sight, while older kids can have a more challenging hunt.

Don’t forget the bunny ears! They make an already fun day even more adorable and photo-worthy. You could even award a prize to the best “hopper” in the group!

Make sure you let kids know which areas are off-limits. For example “There are no eggs in Mom’s vegetable patch.”

5. Don't Forget the Prizes

Finally, make sure to include some fun prizes for the children who participate in the Easter egg hunt. Small toys, stickers, or even chocolate bunnies are all great options. You can also award prizes for different categories, such as the child who finds the most eggs, the child who finds the golden egg, or the child with the best Easter-themed outfit.
