4 Best Christmas Action Movies to Watch After Die Hard

Nothing says Christmas and Fun Family Bonding like Explosions!

Die Hard, the greatest action film of all time and my favorite Bruce Willis film. Hans Gruber falling out of Nakatomi Plaza (spoiler alert) never gets old. Not only is it a classic action movie, but it’s a Christmas movie! Alright, I can hear the groans already. I’m not going to try to settle the debate on whether it deserves to be a Christmas movie or not. It takes place on Christmas Eve and involves family, sort of. So, I’ll let you form your own opinion on the matter. These four films are as much a Christmas movie as Die Hard is. The only question is which one you’ll watch next.

Lethal Weapon (1987)

The ultimate buddy cop film, Lethal Weapon spawned an entire action franchise. Although not as humorous as its sequel, it maintains a sense of fun whilst dealing with serious themes. It’s not explicitly about Christmas, but its elements of family, forgiveness, and friendship make it as much of a Christmas movie as any.

Where to watch: HBO Max, Peacock

Batman Returns (1992)

Brooding and moody, Tim Burton’s Batman Returns juxtaposes the twinkle lights of Christmas with the twisted and dark vision of Burton’s Gotham. Out of all the films on this list, this is the only one that uses Christmas imagery so heavily. Gotham City is coated entirely in a thick layer of snow and ice, which is probably much easier than cleaning the place. Batman and Christmas, how can you go wrong?

 Where to watch: HBO Max

Die Hard 2 (1990)

Of course, you could always follow up Die Hard with Die Hard 2, although it’s not nearly as good as its predecessor. Traveling for Christmas is scary enough but throw in some crazed soviets and John McClane being inconvenienced and you’ve got a Christmas thrill ride!

Where to watch: Amazon Prime Video

Iron Man 3 (2013)

The MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) may not always lend itself to Christmas cheer or specific Holiday celebrations, but Iron Man 3 is an outlier. Not only does the film take place around Christmas, but the story revolves around the ideas of rebirth, change, and generosity. With explosions for good measure and Tony Stark quips, Iron Man 3 is a fun and surprising Christmas action film.
