4 Best Movies to Play During a Christmas Party

Sometimes Music Just Won’t Cut It!  These Christmas Classics are Great Additions to  Holiday Party Playlist.

Christmas parties don’t always need to be accompanied by nonstop music. However, if you think you’d like to play Christmas movies while your guests mingle instead of some rocking tunes, there’s a certain balance required. You need to play films that are both festive, yet familiar. Classic, yet still entertaining. The movie should elevate the party’s atmosphere, not distract or confuse guests. These four films should get the job done and add Christmas charm to any gathering.

The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Depending on your Christmas party crowd, this could be a big hit. If you have friends or family who adore this film, I’m sure they’ll appreciate its beautiful songs playing in the background. Luckily, if you have anyone at this party who lacks taste and dislikes this film, it’s only an hour and sixteen minutes long.

Where to watch: Disney +

A Christmas Carol (1938)

I’ve chosen the original 1938 feature adaptation of this Dickensian story, but any version would do. It’s a tale nearly every person knows the beats of, so no real spoiler alerts will be necessary. I think it’ll add a classic, timeless vibe to your Christmas gathering. I’m also a firm believer in the story’s message, which will never be obsolete.

Where to watch: HBO Max

How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1966)

Okay, technically this is a television short and not a movie. However, this is not only the definitive version of Dr. Suess’ story but the most effective twenty-six minutes you will ever see. I’m not ashamed to admit it still chokes me up, those darn Whos get me every time. It’s the perfect length to either entertain small children at the party for a bit or to use in between two longer films.

Where to watch: Aired on NBC, Rent or Buy

It’s A Wonderful Life (1946)

I know this may come as a shock, but there are people in this world who do not watch It’s a Wonderful Life every Christmas. I’m as dumbfounded as you are. One of the very few Christmas films that can be watched every single year and never, ever lose its luster, It’s A Wonderful Life DESERVES to be played at your party. You owe it to your guests to have this on so at least they can say they watched it once this year.
